The film follows Mon Monegro (), a devout Christian man who finds himself caught in a confusing legal incident. To avoid the authorities, he flees to the Dominican countryside to stay with his cousin, Primo ( Miguel Céspedes ). In a desperate attempt to blend in and survive, Mon is forced to pose as a powerful local fortune teller or "brujo".
