Unlike older printers where ink cartridges were replaced, the Epson L222 is an EcoTank-style printer with refillable ink tanks. It has an internal waste ink pad (also called an absorption pad) that collects excess ink from cleaning cycles. The printer tracks how much ink has been flushed into this pad.
