Grade 11 Geography in South Africa is a pivotal year, introducing high-stakes concepts like GIS (Geographic Information Systems), development geography, and climatology. However, a severe shortage of qualified teachers and laboratory equipment (e.g., topographic maps, GIS software) hampers learning, particularly in rural and township schools. Objective: This paper investigates the pedagogical impact of the "Mindset Learn" multimedia lessons (broadcast on DStv channel 319 and available via YouTube/website) as a supplementary tool for Grade 11 Geography learners. Methodology: A mixed-methods quasi-experimental design was employed across four schools in the Eastern Cape (two rural, two peri-urban). One group (n=120) used standard textbook/teacher methods, while an intervention group (n=115) supplemented learning with curated Mindset Learn video lessons and digital workbooks over an 8-week term (focusing on Geomorphology and Mapwork ). Findings: The intervention group showed a 23% improvement in map-reading skills (p < 0.05) and significantly higher retention of GIS terminology. Qualitative data revealed that Mindset Learn’s visual animations of synoptic weather charts and slope development demystified abstract concepts. However, challenges included inconsistent data access and a lack of live interaction for troubleshooting. Conclusion: Mindset Learn serves as a high-quality, curriculum-aligned cognitive scaffold for Grade 11 Geography, but its optimal use requires a blended learning model with guided facilitation.
