In 1973, feeling suffocated by Tokyo’s conservatism, moved to Paris. She joined the Bazooka group, a loose collective of surrealists and situationists. It was here that she produced her most controversial work: Le Déjeuner sur l'Asphalt (1975). A direct parody of Manet, Mizuki replaced the picnic with a 7-Eleven parking lot, painting four salarymen sitting in formal silence, eating packaged noodles next to a nude, vending-machine-like woman.
