The story follows Peter, a mischievous and adventurous rabbit in a blue jacket, who leads his family—triplets Flopsy, Mopsy, and Cottontail—on daily raids of Mr. McGregor’s vegetable garden. When the elderly McGregor passes away, the animals briefly claim the house as their own. However, conflict arises when his grand-nephew, Thomas McGregor, moves in to claim his inheritance. A "battle of wills" ensues between Peter and Thomas as they compete for the garden and the affections of their kind-hearted neighbor, Bea.
