They opened it. The captain’s handwriting ran wild across the pages—loops and anchors and lists of storms. There were towns named and songs preserved. And tucked in between pen strokes was a letter addressed to "Where the maps forget." The letter told of a night the ship wandered into a fog that smelled of jasmine and lost things. The crew had found a small island that was not on any map, a place made of missing objects and unfinished stories. They left their greatest things there, in hopes the island might keep them safe until someone remembered.
