The cinema manager stated, "The print was so damaged that we had to project it at 18fps instead of 24fps, making the characters move like jerky marionettes. It made the film even more terrifying."
This New Year’s classic contains a scene where the drunken main character, Zhenya Lukashin, mumbles "Kokoshka" while mistaking a woman’s hat for a bird (kokoshka is a diminutive for "hen" or "mother bird" in some Slavic dialects).
